What is assisted living?
Assisted living communities are an excellent option for seniors who may require more day-to-day assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) but wish to remain as independent for as long as possible. Your loved one will receive support with daily living and basic care in a homelike or apartment setting. They will also receive meal service, housekeeping, transportation, and apartment maintenance. Assisted living communities offer all of the benefits of an apartment-style home with the care required to keep your senior healthy and safe and without the responsibility of daily chores or upkeep.
What services do they provide?
Assisted living offers the following services:
- Assistance with bathing, dressing, and grooming
- Escort and transfer assistance
- Medication management or medication reminders
- Food Service – Meals and Snacks
- Housekeeping and assistance with laundry
- Transportation, i.e., to the mall, doctor’s office, or special treatments
- Community and social activities
- 24 hour support services
- Emergency call system
- Assistance available for any activity of daily living
- Beauty shop services
What is the cost for assisted living?
Assisted living typically costs more than independent senior living (because of the additional care services) but can be less than the cost of in-home care, and almost always less than the cost of memory care and nursing homes. The cost of care will vary depending on many factors including your location and the care services provided. The cost of assisted living can range from a low average of $2500 per month to $10,000+ per month.
Your Assisted Living Locators® Care Advisor can help you fully understand the cost of care and associated services provided to determine the best options for you or your loved one.
The federal Medicare program does not cover the costs of assisted living facilities. In some states, Medicaid may pay for assisted living based on a combination of health care needs and the financial resources of the senior. Your Assisted Living Locators® Care Advisor can also provide guidance and resources for financing senior housing.
