About Karen Mitchell
After receiving my Bachelor of Arts degree, I spent 25+ years in leadership roles for hospitals and rehab centers, served as a healthcare revenue cycle consultant, and as a vice president in client relations. Prior to starting my Assisted Living Locators business, I was also a business director for a senior community. This last role was the catalyst for my desire to work with seniors and their families to assist them in finding the right fit in retirement living.
Finding the right senior living options
I listen carefully to clients and their families during the intake phase to capture every nuance of what they share with me. I observe their body language as they tour and interact with each community that we visit. My knowledge of senior living communities helps me ensure clients have a solid understanding of what each community offers and how that community fits their needs or where it might fall short.
Why choose local experts?
Having worked at a senior community before starting my business, I acquired knowledge and skills that enable me to educate and guide seniors and their families through the decision-making process.

Independent Living stands out for active seniors unburdened by the need for assistance with daily activities. Assisted Living is tailored for seniors requiring some support with daily tasks. Communities designed for a more socially engaging environment, and residential care homes providing a homely atmosphere with an elevated caregiver-to-resident ratio, present appealing options. For seniors diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment or dementia, including Alzheimer’s, Memory Care is a specialized choice.
Effectively funding assisted living in South Tarrant County, Texas often involves tapping into savings and retirement accounts. Other financial avenues include leveraging social security income, Long Term Care insurance policies, Life Settlements, and the proceeds from selling a primary residence. Veterans may explore VA Aid and Attendance benefits, while some individuals might qualify for Medicaid. It’s crucial to note that Medicare does not cover the costs associated with senior living.
Independent living communities usually have minimal to no wait times, especially if you are open to a variety of apartment types. Unlike memory care or Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), which may have longer waiting periods, independent living spaces are often readily available for those seeking a more autonomous lifestyle.
No, Medicare generally does not cover the expenses associated with assisted living or memory care. These services are typically paid for through private funds, long-term care insurance, or other financial resources. It’s important to explore alternative financial options, such as Medicaid or specialized assistance programs, depending on the specific community and state regulations.
