Feedback From The Families

When we were faced with a need to find an assisted living facility for my sister-in-law FAST, right on the tail of COVID, serendipitously we received a follow-up telephone call from Glen and Kristy of Assisted Living Locators. (They had been referred to us more than a year earlier after my SIL was discharged from the hospital, but she was not leaving her home at that point.) When I said "Yes, please help" they jumped into action, securing appointments and tours, all the while educating us that SIL's financial status would carry her further than we thought possible. Within a matter of weeks, with their expert guidance and local contacts, we had SIL comfortably situated in a great assisted living facility. In less than a year, SIL's condition deteriorated to the point she had to be moved into the outstanding memory care unit of the same facility, one of the considerations Glen and Kristy educated us about in the initial search. They also were instrumental in our being able to navigate the murky waters of getting VA benefits to supplement SIL's income thereby extending the time she would continue to be eligible for this non-Medicaid facility. I couldn't recommend a better guide to family members in need of placing a loved one in a facility.

These folks are so nice and caring. Glen gave me some free advice since my family's situation wasn't one that would make sense for me to become a client. That advice was invaluable for getting my family member placed in a long term care facility.

The existence of waiting lists depends on various factors such as location, the level of care provided by the community, room size, and the time of year. In most cases, there is no waitlist. However, in situations where waitlists do exist, they are generally short, with the exception of 2-bedroom apartments, which are consistently in high demand.

The cost varies based on factors like care needs, location, room size, and budget considerations. We can assist you in exploring options at different price points that align with your current care needs and help you understand how these costs may evolve over time. Additionally, we can provide insights into the expectations associated with both lower-cost and higher-priced options, enabling you to make informed decisions about your situation.

The cost is divided into two parts: the hospitality charge and the care charge. The hospitality charge covers room rent (which can vary based on room size and town location), three meals per day, snacks and beverages, activities, and more. The care charge encompasses the hands-on assistance provided by the community for Medication Management and Activities of Daily Living. While you have some control over your hospitality costs, care charges are determined by each community through a clinical assessment.

In simple terms, state law mandates that Assisted Living communities in New Hampshire promote residents’ independence by providing staff assistance with Activities of Daily Living, whereas Independent Living communities cannot offer any assistance. Additionally, Independent Living communities in New Hampshire can sometimes pose challenges as residents’ care needs increase and they become unable to bring in external help.

There’s no magic phrase, but maintaining an ongoing conversation is crucial. Communities in New Hampshire are well-equipped to help individuals deal with the anxieties of transitioning to senior living. It’s essential to convey concerns about their care and emphasize the desire for a familial relationship, not a caregiver dynamic.
